Australian Plank Flooring
Australian Plank Flooring, remarkable for its stunning color and character, durability and stability.
The wood itself, an Australian Eucalyptus, is a disease, insect, fire and drought resistant tree. When the tree is attacked by any of these assaults, it fights them off, but retains the scars, giving it a character all its own. Most notably pin-worm holes, black brush fire marks, chocolate gum veins and pockets, and a very tight grain. Coloration varies from medium honey to cinnamon . . . all these combine to make a floor of incredible character.
The wood itself is 35% harder than Oak, 100% harder than Cherry.
Since the tree comes from such a dry climate it is naturally dry. With consistency, the wood arrives at the work site at 7% moisture content. While most installers like to have flooring acclimatize for a few weeks on site, we often install ours immediately and have yet to have a single call-back.
The plank flooring comes in 3 1/4” x 3/4”, and” 5 x 3/4” with at least half the planks in each box measuring 7’. We also offer an engineered, 7 5/8” version of the flooring, for installations over concrete or radiant floor heat.
Our surface styles are Unfinished, Finished-Smooth, and Hand-hewn, a hand scraped surface with “pillowed” or slightly rounded end joints for a more rustic look, and finally French Bleed, where we ink stain the wood before scraping it. We warranty the finish for 15 years residential and 5 years for commercial. The wood will last…..a very long time!
The comment we most often hear is “I have never seen flooring like this”. We hope that you will call us and that we may give you a showing, pass on our references and possibly help you put down a floor that will give any home a character, richness, durability and value that you will appreciate for years to come. You can see an example in the Glenwood Springs/Aspen area at "Passion for Picnics" Gift Baskets in the Meadows Mall in Glenwood. Many thanks for your consideration,
